Local composer ready to bring his

“Robber Ballerina” to life (Salisbury Magazine)

Davis Brown has a dream...to bring a ballerina to life.  Last year the Salisbury composer completed “The Robber Princess”.  “It's my magnum opus,” says Brown, 54. “It's the largest work I have ever composed.”

ABOUT DAVIS BROWN

Davis Brown has been composing for piano and orchestra from his youngest years. Raised in Oxford, Mississippi, he studied piano and composition under Raymond Liebau and Desmond Kincaid. His first work for orchestra won the National Grand Prize for the National Federation of Music Clubs’ Cavalcade for Creative Youth. While in the U.S. Air Force, he wrote original marches which were later adopted as official marches by two Air Force wings, one in Germany and one in the United States.. Dr. Brown was affiliated with the Charlotte Philharmonic Orchestra for its last nine seasons, and for the last five he served as Composer-as-Residence. His works have been performed across the nation, in Europe and in Asia. He currently serves on the Boards of Directors of the Charlotte Civic Orchestra and Salisbury Symphony Orchestra, and is the owner of Gusthold Music Publisher, a publisher of orchestral music by composers worldwide.  He resides with his wife in North Carolina and has three adult children.
